Explore and experience the thrills! Discover the landscapes of Auvergne and the Chaîne des Puys, the fascinating history of volcanoes and their legends, the beauty and fragility of our planet, and more.

3/ ROMANESQUE CHURCHES

Notre-Dame du Port Basilica (Clermont-Ferrand city center), Saint-Austremoine Abbey in Issoire, Saint-Nectaire Church, Notre-Dame de Saint-Saturnin Church, and Notre-Dame d’Orcival Basilica: an exceptional itinerary. Nestled in a lush setting and crossed by a river, Orcival is built around the magnificent Romanesque basilica, which houses one of the most famous Black Virgins in Auvergne. Venerated year-round, this statue is carried in procession on August 15th. The town also comes alive on Saturday mornings, when a colorful market takes over the main square. In summer, 2 km north, visit the gardens of the Château de Cordès, designed in 1695 by Le Nôtre (who also designed the gardens of Versailles).

4/ THE COL DU GUERY

Flanked by the highest lake in Auvergne, this pass is ideal for outdoor activities. A 7 km loop ends with a magnificent view of the source of the Dordogne River, while the icy waters of Lake Guéry (1,250 m) teem with trout and perch. Purchase a fishing license (approx. €7/day) at the Auberge du Lac de Guéry, on the waterfront.

5/ THE MICHELIN ADVENTURE

MICHELIN: A legendary brand that epitomizes innovation, research, and excellence. A visit to the « Michelin Adventure » museum is as exciting as it is unmissable. Not to be missed during your stay.

6/ Besse-et-Saint-Anastaise

Basalt houses, cobbled streets, a belfry, and shops selling regional products fully justify a visit to this beautiful mountain village (formerly called Besse-en-Chandesse). Hiking and mountain biking enthusiasts will appreciate the excellent network of trails around Lac Pavin, a volcanic lake 6 km west of the town. For a taste of mountain culture, come during the transhumance of the Black Virgin. On July 21st, the cows are herded to generous pastures, before returning at the end of September, with a host of patronal festivals and fireworks.

7/ AUVERGNE CHEESES

Saint-Nectaire, Cantal, Bleu d’Auvergne, Salers, Fourme d’Ambert… Auvergne is a cheese platter! Imagine strolling through local markets, where stalls are overflowing with cheese treasures. Saint-Nectaire, with its bloomy rind and creamy interior, is a must-try. Its subtle nutty flavor evokes lush meadows. Don’t miss Cantal, the oldest Auvergne cheese, whose texture varies from soft to firm depending on its maturation. Between two and young, it melts deliciously in the mouth, while between two and old reveal more pronounced aromas, perfect for lovers of full-bodied cheeses. Bleu d’Auvergne, with its blue veins and creamy interior, is a true delight for lovers of blue-veined cheeses. Every bite is an invitation to discover the riches of the Auvergne region. Let yourself be seduced by the generosity and authenticity of Auvergne cheeses, and grab a basket (large enough) to take these treasures home with you.

8/ THE LAKES OF PUY-DE-DÔME
